Winter will be here soon and avid snowboarders will be flocking the snow again in droves.  Many will just rent a party bus and head to the hill with a large group of friends. Snowboarding is an extremely popular outdoor sport that requires considerable prep work. Not only do you need to find the right snowboarding spot, you also need to pack all the gears and gadgets. Camping is a wonderful way to get out and be one with nature. The feeling of waking up in the morning and stepping out into the crisp morning breeze is an exhilarating experience, and there is no better way to do it than with your loved ones. That is why a 4 man tent is the perfect utility for all your outdoor camping needs. Imagine waking up with your family after a great night’s sleep, a sleep that did not include bumping shoulders because of cramped sleeping quarters. The ability to get up and stand fully erect in your tent, stepping outside, and being proud of how luxurious your tent is. You might even think of those poor souls sleeping in their portable motorized homes, because you know they will never feel as connected to nature as you are. Whitewater kayaking is something that can be enjoyable for people of nearly all ages.  I’ve had my 7 year old out in my boat on some class II waters this summer and it got me to thinking about introducing people to the world of whitewater and the best way in going about it.

There is one main thing I will say about learning to become a good kayaker.  YOU’VE GOT TO WANT IT!  If you don’t want it there’s really no reason in ever really getting out there.  Most people are easily frightened by the confines of a whitewater kayak and never progress beyond the first terrifying day on the water or their first bad experience in the pool.

In an earlier post I covered some basics and previous experiences with base roof rack systems without getting too in depth regarding attachments.  My next few posts will talk about some of the various attachments I’ve had over the years and my experiences with those.

I’ve traveled extensively both regionally and cross country with different rack systems and things attached.  My main travels have involved toting snowboards, kayaks and surfboards with a few bike mixed in here and there.

For the time being I’ll basically talk about kayak transport and may save the remainder for future posts.  As most of you already know my main rack set up over the years has been the Yakima round bars until I recently upgraded to the Whispbar thru bar system for my later model Chevy Tahoe.

Since I’m a practical parent (that’s debatable I guess) and also a weekend warrior I’d like to chat a little bit about previous experiences with vehicles and give a few pros and cons of each.  Again this will never be a one size fits all type scenario but I’ll expand a little of why each car I’ve owned and how it worked out for my family and our weekend adventures.

So I’m a big proponent of the value in getting what you pay for.  I’m not one to just go throwing out money and wasting precious resources.  Trust me…i’m the first to hop on and look for a good deal.  A lot about this term can be misread or misinterpreted but allow me to clarify and explain my experience over time.

Let me begin here by saying that I’m a weekend warrior.  Now that I’m self employed I get to venture out more during the week…but then that tends to keep me here in front of the computer on the weekend.  I miss the crowds…but I also miss all my 9-5 friends.
